And so it begins again…..
Cooler mornings, shorter evenings, leaves beginning to turn color, and the smell of fermenting grapes in the air….. harvest 2024 has begun. I pulled up at the winery one recent morning to find a lot of my family as well as friends and mentors helping with crushing, de-stemming and juicing grapes. Made my heart smile! Along with our boys helping Marc (Brock being the fearless leader), was dear friend and popcorn king, Alvin Costa and our mentor Mark Tanner. As many of you know, Mark was the previous owner and originator of Twisted Barrel Winery – and what a guy! He is kind, offers soft-spoken advice and forever encourages our endeavors. I also need to mention John Wishek, who tirelessly follows us around taking pictures to document our journey. John is like another son to Marc and me and we love him dearly! And of course, we enjoy having our “Grands” involved too – they make everything more fun! We are so very blessed to have the friends and family that we do. Brock is really excited to be producing his own wine and he looks forward to sharing it with everyone.
October is going to be one crazy month for us! This Friday, October 4, will be our last Firepit Friday for the season and we are ending with a bang! Along with our normal cornhole competition and special baked treats, we will be enjoying some amazing music provided by Mr. Monte Hummel with his group “Tapestry”. Wine will be sold by the glass or bottle and the evening begins at 5:30 p.m. The following weekend, Oct. 12 and 13, we will be celebrating the wedding of our daughter Breanna and her handsome groom, Aaron. Sweet Joyelle along with some friends will be on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly in our absence. At the end of the month, October 26, Twisted Barrel will host a Hallowine Party beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be $20.00 each and will include a glass of wine and some fun haunted treats! Call the winery for tickets. Lastly, our next wine club pick-up party will be November 2 – details to follow.
And now for a follow up on Wilson and the pups. Wilson continues to accompany me every weekend at the winery while his pretty little girlfriend has been at home tending to six adorable pug puppies. They are now seven weeks old and getting ready to pack their bags for their new homes. As I promised many of you, I will have the pups at the winery this Sunday, October 6 from about noon to 3 p.m. for anyone wanting to see Wilson’s offspring. They are pretty stinkin’ cute! Oh, and Wilson said he will not charge for pictures – just bring treats.
As always, we appreciate all of you and your support of Twisted Barrel Winery. Please stop by for a glass of wine sometime soon – we look forward to sharing this harvest with you!
Cheers,
Denise Warmerdam
